Gogi Alauddin: A legend who helped revitalize Pakistan squash

Pakistan squash witnessed a resurgence of sorts in the 1970s, thanks to a crop of exceptionally talented youngsters. Among them was Gogi Alauddin, a name that would become synonymous with excellence in the sport.

One of Gogi’s most notable achievements came in 1970, when he won the prestigious British Amateur Championship on his debut. This was no small feat, and it marked Gogi out as a player to watch. He went on to retain the title in 1971, cementing his reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the squash world.

Gogi’s greatest moment, however, came in 1976, when he triumphed in the PIA Open. This was a major international tournament that attracted some of the biggest names in squash, and Gogi’s victory was a testament to his skill and determination.

Along the way, he had also notched up some notable scalps, including a win over the legendary Geoff Hunt in the semi-finals of the 1973 British Open.
