Sindh government seeks federal support for Keti Bander feasibility study

Pakistan’s province of Sindh has formally requested federal support for Pakistan Gas Solutions Limited (PGSL) to obtain necessary permissions for a feasibility study on the Keti Bander port.

Located near the Arabian Sea coast in southern Sindh, Keti Bander is a deep-sea port with untapped economic and strategic potential. Its coastal location offers natural advantages for energy infrastructure, including LNG terminals, oil import/export facilities, and offshore oil rigs.

Documents reviewed by Nukta reveal that Sindh’s Energy Department has written to the Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs regarding the development of Keti Bunder Port for handling LNG, RLNG, LPG, containers, and general cargo.

In a letter dated July 10, 2034, PGSL expressed interest in developing Keti Bunder Port and sought permission to conduct a detailed feasibility study.

The Sindh Cabinet reviewed and approved the proposal on December 4, 2024, allowing PGSL to proceed with the study at their own cost and risk, without financial obligation from the Sindh government.

Following the provincial cabinet’s approval, the Energy Department issued a Letter of Support to PGSL, outlining conditions for the feasibility study. If the study is approved, the Sindh government will negotiate an Implementation Agreement with PGSL for the project’s execution.

The Sindh government has requested the Ministry of Maritime Affairs to support PGSL in obtaining necessary permissions and NOCs for the feasibility study under relevant laws and policies.
